The Door and the Shepherd
How many times have you gone through a door in your life?
Most of the time opening a door goes without thought. Sometimes though, the
most memorable of occasions of our lives can follow after we pass through a
doorway. These occasions can be the most joyful times to the worst times. There
is a door that we can choose to open that will lead to eternal life. In the 10th
chapter of John’s gospel, Jesus describes the most important door that your
soul will ever choose to open. Jesus says: “I
am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and
out, and find pasture.” John 10:9
In times uncertainty human nature says: is there another
way? When we don’t know what lays on the other side of the door we say: there’s
got to be another way. But there is no other way to the Father but by Jesus. John 10:1 & 14:6. In other
situations we worry ourselves about who is going to be on the other side of the
door. Whether it is a meeting with total strangers, or a group of acquaintances
that you haven’t seen in some time. Once we enter the door of Christ we are
part of the body of Christ and are members of his flock where he knows us by
name. There are other times where the door we open will require leadership
afterwards. Nervously walking to the door of my first job I so desperately
wished for a boss who would show me everything I needed to know with a kind
hand. In John 10:4, we see that once
we accept Christ we never have to fear the way unknown, (He leads us).
Once a person closes the door of the Doctor’s office where
they learned of their life-threatening condition, they anxiously wonder; what
is next? We know as a member of the flock we have a glorious pasture. John 10:9 & Psalm 100:3. And In
this pasture no longer will we worry about a door because Jesus is the door and
we shall come and go. Why, because Jesus laid down his life for us. We are
eternally secured on either side of the door because Jesus cares for his flock.
“And when he putteth
forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the
sheep follow him: for they know his voice.” John 10:4&5. Do you know the Lord’s voice? Have comfort in
whatever is behind a earthly door in choosing to open
The Door, which is Jesus Christ.
